Principal / Senior Software and Systems Engineer–Cardiac Devices

Would you like to use your software engineering skills to help create devices that treat a leading cause of illness and death? You could do exactly that by joining this pioneering, well-funded medical device company as it develops lifesaving technologies that treat congestive heart failure that are significant improvement to currently available solutions, which deliver less predictable or precise critical fluid management. It’s a big problem – every year five million Americans experience heart failure and >250,000 die from the disease. Human clinical trials of this innovative device already show it’s potential to change the standard of care for this major health issue. The experienced, systems oriented engineer in this role will collaborate with a third party developer to integrate specialized algorithms with software, sensors, pumps, a touch screen and hospital EMR components that form a highly effective closed loop therapeutic device that improves outcomes, dramatically shortens hospitals stays, while saving healthcare system resources.

The position:

  • Work remotely or in Boston to collaborate with a third party firm to develop and support software that manages the operation of novel, automated systems that treat heart failure by precisely and predictably controlling fluid management.
  • Work with the clinical research team and healthcare providers to define and create user friendly product specifications.
  • Generate software architecture, and detailed design documentation.
  • Apply software engineering processes to develop and support novel, automated medical devices, including algorithm enhancement and GUI refinement.
  • Develop, support, and maintain FDA and ISO 62304 compliant software and firmware applications.

Required qualifications:

  • BS or greater in computer science, computer engineering or electrical engineering.
  • At least five years of successful commercial experience in software and firmware engineering.
  • Proven track record that includes medical device development, and a strong understanding of the intricacies of FDA and IEC 62304 software classification.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Highly effective oral and written communication skills to thoughtfully present technical ideas.
  • Highly motivated, self-starter, able to manage multiple priorities.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with embedded Linux or other Linux variants, QT, and C, C++, Java, or Python.
  • Experience with source code version control and issue tracking (e.g. Git and Jira).
  • Experience utilizing Agile Development Methodologies.
  • Experience with GUI software development.
  • Experience with AI/ML tools.
  • Experience with EMR integration.
